From surgeon to biotech founder – CV at a glance

As a renowned expert for interfaces and technology transfer, I have extensive specialist knowledge and many years of experience in the healthcare sector. My expertise extends across various specialist areas, such as medical technology, drug-device combinations, artificial intelligence and innovation management in hospitals.


With over 25 years of experience as a Focus-winning cancer surgeon and clinic director, I am very familiar with the tension between medicine and economics. I revived two surgical clinics and laid the foundation for the future for them.

During this time I also revolutionized the treatment of peritoneal cancer. This resulted in Capnopharm GmbH. I have also published over 200 specialist publications on these topics.

    My passion is biomedical research and strategic consulting for biotech companies and hospitals. Until April 2023, I worked as director of the national center for pleura and peritoneum at the University of Tübingen and was recognized throughout Germany as a leading doctor in the gastrointestinal tumors category in the Focus Doctors List 2021 & 2022.


    My research focuses on local therapies and the treatment of peritoneal cancer. As the inventor of the pressure aerosol chemotherapy PIPAC, I have gained international recognition and been awarded 14 innovation prizes. In addition to my surgical expertise, I have also supervised about 50 PhD theses and authored several textbooks in the field of surgery.


    As the founder of four biotech companies, including Capnopharm, I know about the factors that lead to the success or failure of a start-up.


    Thanks to my multicultural experience in Germany, France, the USA and Switzerland, I offer a global perspective to drive innovation in healthcare. My goal is to provide you with excellent management consulting, scientific advice and expert opinions in the medical field.
